Reigning in Life
June 8, 2026  |  Courts of Praise  |  Bishop Beau Barton
Seven questions drawn directly from the message. Move through them in order — they build from what the Word says to what you are going to do about it.
Today's Anchor
"For if by one man's offense death reigned through the one, much more those who receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness will reign in life through the One, Jesus Christ."
Jesus did not come only to save you from sin. He came so that you would reign in life. Adam, Jesus, and every born-again believer all started in the same place of sinlessness. The question before each of us is the same question they faced: whose will are we going to follow? The call is not to try harder — it is to yield to what God has already placed inside you, stop living beneath what He has made you, and walk in the abundance of grace that was given the moment you were born again.
1
What does the word "reign" mean to you? Before this message, what did you think Romans 5:17 was about?
Leader NoteHave you ever stopped and asked yourself in a moment, "Am I reigning over my own life right now, or is the Spirit of God?" Have you ever stopped to ask God for his opinion about the decisions you are making?
2
Bro Beau compared Adam, Jesus, and us — all starting in the same place of sinlessness. What do you make of that comparison? Does it change how you think about what God has done in you?
3
Read 2 Corinthians 5:17 together. Do you actually believe that your old things have passed away? What makes it hard to believe on an ordinary day?
Leader NoteAnother way to ask this: Is there something from your past you still treat as active — even though the Word says it's gone? Or: What's the difference between knowing something is true and actually believing it on a hard day?
4
"You're not sinning against God accidentally. You're overriding the Spirit of God that brings conviction of sin and is telling you, don't do that." How does that reframe the way you think about your own choices?
5
What area of your life have you given yourself "full permission" to stay as-is — told yourself "that's just how I am"? What would it look like to stop agreeing with that?
Leader NoteAnother way to ask this: Where have you drawn a line and told yourself — this is just who I am, this is just how I'm wired? Or: What would it look like to stop agreeing with that and start agreeing with what God says instead?
6
1 John 1:9 says if we confess, He is faithful and just to forgive us. The message described confession as restoring us immediately to a place of perfection before God. Does that feel real to you? Why or why not?
7
"Those who receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness will reign in life through the One, Jesus Christ." — Romans 5:17. That grace is already in you. You received it the moment you were born again. What would change in your week if you actually lived out of that reality?
Reflection for the Week
Identify one area where you have been defaulting to old patterns instead of yielding to the Spirit. Name it specifically — not in general terms. Bring it back next week: what did you do differently, and what happened?
