Prisoner of the Lord

Obedience to God is never measured by the bare minimum. Everything you have should already belong to Him — not the smallest percentage that can be spared, but all of it: the finances, the time, the affections, the things easy to give and the things never even considered. Faithfulness in the smallest detail matters more than the size of any platform. Elijah's first appearance in Scripture makes that point without needing to say it — there's no résumé, no list of past qualifications or backstory explaining why he's there; he simply stands in front of a king, and that's it (James 5:17). Walk worthy of the calling you've been given, even when it costs you something, and refuse to misplace the blame for what it brings (Ephesians 4:1). "I, therefore, the prisoner of the Lord" — not a prisoner of anyone else, but a decision to see hardship through submission rather than blame. Suffering for doing right, endured patiently, carries God's approval; suffering for wrongdoing carries none (1 Peter 2:19-20). The enemy studies every step of obedience and changes his strategy to match it, so the decision to let hardship bring God glory has to be made before the hardship ever arrives (1 Peter 5:8). Even Jesus, though a Son, learned obedience through what He suffered (Hebrews 5:8) — and now it comes to us. Be sober-minded. Be ready. Whatever the plate of suffering, let it be for His glory.
